Of the population aged 10 or over in Bucharest, 34% have tertiary education, around 34% have graduated high-school, 9% finished vocational education, and the other 23% have either primary or secondary education.

Of the people with tertiary education, 31% have finished studies in economics, 19% in engineering (especially machinery, electricity, electronics, economic engineering and management, metal processing, chemistry) and 8% in law. In 2015, 24,486 students graduated from a university in Bucharest (30% of the total number of graduates in Romania), with an additional 14,462 graduating from a masters program, and 779 graduating from a Ph.D. program.

The University of Bucharest reunites 19 faculties, over 300 study programs (covering a broad spectrum, from law, psychology, literature, political sciences, sociology, sports and theology to biology, chemistry, psychics, mathematics and IT) and around 31,000 students.

The Polytechnic University of Bucharest, with 15 faculties and over 200 study programs, trains around 33,000 students in the area of engineering (electrical, energetic, hardware and automation, electronics, IT&C, mecathronics and mechanics, biotechnology, transport, airspace, materials, chemistry etc.).

The University of Economic Studies, with a total of 12 faculties and around 20,000 students, offers a large number of study programs in the field of business administration, public administration and management, MBA, tourism, trade, statistics, accounting, agri-business, finance and banking, management, marketing, international business etc.

The Technical University of Civil Engineering, with 7 faculties and around 7,000 students, covers a large spectrum of construction-related engineering (civil, industrial and agricultural buildings, hydrotechnics, roads, technological equipment, geodesy, building services).

The ”Ion Mincu” University of Architecture and Urban Planning, with around 3,000 students, is training specialists in the field of architecture, interior design and furniture, urban planning, management and design, landscape planning.

The ”Carol Davila” University of Medicine and Pharmacy is the largest medical studies institution in Romania, with over 10,000 students.

The University of Agronomic Sciences and Veterinary Medicine trains around 11,000 students in the field of agriculture, horticulture, animal production, veterinary medicine, biotechnologies, economic engineering in agriculture and rural development.

The National School of Political and Administrative Studies, with 4 faculties and over 6,000 students, is specialized in public administration, PR & communication, management, political sciences, European integration etc.

In the field of vocational tertiary studies, three public universities are providing a large number of study programs: The National Music University, The Arts University and The National Physical Education and Sports – each training around 1,000 students. Private universities are also available in Bucharest, providing a wide range of program studies.
