The main sectors that have driven the Bucharest economy in recent years are: trade, transportation & logistics, technical and professional services (especially BPO), and IT&C. Energy, technical and professional services and financial services have registered the most dynamic growth in recent years. Main exports include: mechanical products and parts, electrical and electronic equipment, agri-food products (especially cereals, seeds and tobacco products) and fuels. Bucharest, is however, the largest exporter of services in Romania, especially in the IT&C and BPO sectors.

Bucharest hosts the largest pool of professionals and talents (especially university graduates) in Romania. Therefore, it is an ideal destination for high added value services companies, in fields such as IT&C, BPO (outsourcing), financial services, R&D of different professional activities (for example accounting, legal and business advisory, design & architecture, engineering, creative industries etc.).

Of the six sectors that make up Bucharest, Sector 5 is the least developed. In 2017, Sector 5 generated only 5% of all firm revenues generated in Bucharest, with the best performing Sector, Sector1, generating 10 times as much as Sector 5.

At the same time, Sector 5 offers some of the best investment opportunities in Bucharest right now. It has some of the largest un-developed land reserves, relatively close to the city center, and it has a strategic and contiguous piece of land, with a surface of around 110 hectares, and largely in public hands – the Antiaeriana Area. This will be one of the prime investment sites in Bucharest in the years to comes.
